A New Era for Creating Apps
The future of app building is here! Esri is introducing exciting new tools—ArcGIS Experience Builder and ArcGIS Instant Apps—as ArcGIS Configurable Apps and ArcGIS Web AppBuilder approach retirement. Here’s what you need to know:
Why Transition to New Tools?
These modern tools make app building easier, faster, and more powerful. With features like drag-and-drop functionality, ready-to-use templates, and support for both 2D and 3D data, users can create interactive apps without coding skills.
- Experience Builder lets you design mobile-friendly apps with widgets for adding annotations, filtering data, and much more. Its Express Mode simplifies app migration from Web AppBuilder.
- Instant Apps offers over 20 templates to quickly create apps for specific workflows. Features like the new Compare and Observer templates let users analyze maps, 3D data, and trends over time.
Key Retirement Dates
- ArcGIS Online: Configurable Apps and Web AppBuilder will retire in Q1 2026. Existing apps may face security or functionality issues after retirement.
- ArcGIS Enterprise: Support for these tools ends with the Q2 2025 release. Older versions will still host Configurable Apps, but newer releases won’t support them.
- Classic Esri Story Maps: Retires in Q1 2026. Transition to ArcGIS StoryMaps for a better experience.
- Map Viewer Classic: Retires in Q1 2026. Switch to the new Map Viewer for improved performance.
